UC Monitor Requirements

Requirements to run UC Monitor

In order to run UC Monitor, the system should meet the following requirements:

  • Windows 7+ (x64), Windows Server 2008R2+ (x64)
  • Supported for Lync 2013 or Skype for Business 2015
  • Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5
  • Lync/SfB Administrative Tools installed
  • Run as administrator to ensure all features work as expected

It is recommended that you run UC Monitor on a dedicated or existing management server.

Requirements to monitor Windows servers

UC Monitor collects monitoring data from servers across your network using Windows Remote Management. This may require some configuration before remote management is allowed.

On the UC Monitor server open a PowerShell window as administrator and run the following command. Accept all recommend changes to enable Windows Remote Management.

 

On the UC Monitor server add the servers you wish to monitor to the trusted hosts list using the following command:

 

This command overwrites any existing trusted hosts, so make sure you check if any already exist, so they can be added to the command. You can check for existing trusted hosts with the following command:

 

Firewall requirements

UC Monitor collects monitoring data from servers across your network, requiring firewall configuration to support it.

Windows Services

In Windows Firewall enable the Remote Service Management exception on the remote computer to which you want to monitor. Additionally, you must ensure the the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is running.

Windows Event Log

In Windows Firewall enable the Remote Event Log Management exception on the remote computer to which you want to monitor. Additionally, you must ensure the the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is running.

Certificates

You must ensure the the Remote Registry service is running.

SfB Certificates

Information about Skype for Business certificates that are currently assigned and active is collected using PowerShell Remoting. Skype for Business servers must allow port 443 (HTTPS) inbound from the UC Monitor server.

SfB Replication

Topology replication information is collected from Front End servers using PowerShell Remoting. Skype for Business Front End Servers must allow port 443 (HTTPS) inbound from the UC Monitor server.

CPU/RAM

In Windows Firewall enable the Performance Logs and Alerts exception on the remote computer to which you want to monitor. Additionally, you must ensure the the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is running.

Disk

In Windows Firewall enable the Remote Volume Management exception on the remote computer to which you want to monitor. Additionally, you must ensure the the Virtual Disk Service (VDS) is running.

ICMP (ping/response time)

In Windows Firewall with Advanced Security add a rule to allow ICMP on the remote computer to which you want to monitor.
